SD Little Viking Axe
A shapely and well balanced axe, the Little Viking axe head weighs 24.5 ounces and it has a 13” elm handle which weighs about 3 ounces. Altogether the axe weighs 27.5 ounces, not so heavy that an occasional user would get tired quickly. This axe is versatile and light enough for spoon carving and also stout enough for bowl carving. The blade edge is 5-3/8” long from the toe to the heel. The blade’s curved shape allows for a natural slicing of the wood as it is swung and increases the axe’s efficiency. It comes finely sharpened with flat bevels. Like the Djarv’s Smallest Carving (or “Baby”) Axe, it also has a textured handle to increase the grip. This is a fine choice for someone looking for a top of the line, hand forged, general purpose sloyd carving axe.
(the photos show the axe with a protective rubberized coating on the sharp edge.)
The Little Viking is the larger axe to the right in the photo of the two axes together, only the larger axe is included in the price of this item with a custom handmade leather sheath, not the smallest axe.

SD Smallest axe
This axe head weighs 11.5 ounces and the handle is about 3 ounces, so altogether, this little axe weighs in at 14.5 ounces. It is the smaller axe on the left in the photo of the two axes. (the larger axe and the sheath are not included in the sale of this item...)
This axe is versatile and easy to control, with a light but dense head and a nicely balanced handle; a great choice for spoon carving and light hatchet work. Because of its light weight, people who are new to axe work or who only occasionally swing an axe will find this one easy to use. It has a 3” wide blade and a 13” elm handle which has small parallel ridges finely cut into the surface to enhance the grip. This small axe is great for children and light enough to take on a nomadic spoon carving adventure or even backpacking. Hand forged in Sweden.
We make and include a custom leather sheath for this axe.

These spoon carving hook knives are hand forged and fitted with textured elm handles, the blades keep an edge exceptionally well.
Photos show new knives with their protective rubberized coatings still on the blades.
One right hook knife per order, just in case the photos of multiple knives is confusing...

sd small hook knives

SD slöjd knife
Svante Djarv’s sloyd knife has a blade that is 2 2/3” long x 5/8” wide (at the handle), hand forged from high carbon tool steel that holds and edge very well. It is a hefty blade with finely sharpened flat bevels. This is a good choice for someone looking for a thicker forged blade and a custom wooden handle, which is of textured elm for a solid grip. It would make a very good all-around knife for daily use and carving. The blade is long enough to tackle carving larger spoons, but not too big that more delicate projects feel over tooled. This is a good upgrade to an entirely hand made knife from the less expensive factory made Mora knife offerings.
