Kalthoff "small carver" axe with sheath
Description
The Kalthoff “small carver” is made in Sweden by Julia Kalthoff. Julia developed this tool in collaboration with Beth Moen, renowned woodworker and lead teacher in wood at Sätergläntans college.
This axe is an excellent middle point in terms of size and weight; if one can purchase just one axe for a range of projects, this is a great choice. Really a top quality, precision tool that has been getting rave reviews. We’re happy to have started carrying Julia’s work just recently.
The axe comes with a red leather sheath, as well as a marvelous life-time guarantee.
Weighs a total of 1 lb 9 oz
from the Kalthoff website: The 550 gram axe head is easy to swing. The edge comes ready to use and will hold a sharp edge for a long time. The 32 degree angle works well for both soft and hard wood. Hardened to 57 Rockwell, it has good edge retention and is still easy to sharpen.
The axe is balanced just below the axe head, which makes every gram work to your advantage. When you do precision work, the axe feels lighter because your grip point is the same as the balance point. When you need to remove lots of material and need more power, you grip closer to the end knob so the entire weight is working for you.
